Youth Happenings at Highlands Lutheran Church

From the Director of Children and Youth Ministry–

I would like to extend my thanks to the Highlands Lutheran Church congregation for making me feel welcome and supported in ministry as we begin to develop our youth program. We had several fun and successful events throughout October that allowed us to reach out to neighborhood kids, form a partnership with Skinner Middle School, and get to know each other better as a community of God’s people. A special thanks to people who donated food items and chaperone time for our events. I’m excited to journey on into the fall and the beginning of the Advent season with you.

As we approach Thanksgiving and a time of harvest, I am encouraged to reflect on the practice of gratefulness – for if we spend our thinking power and energy focusing on what we do not have or what is causing us tension, it is possible to overlook the many gifts and joys that are around us every day. I believe that the ability to choose our perspective on our own life is one of the greatest gifts we’ve been given. We have God’s love, and we have each other, and I would say this leaves us in a situation of abundance. Let us continue to regard our wealth of life and spirit as a precious treasure and to respond to it in a way that expresses our thanks.
