We are yoked with New Beginnings Worshipping Community, which means we have been drawn together to support each other's mission and to share resources.
One of the most critical times when support and resources are needed is during Re-Entry, which usually refers to the first few months after someone leaves prison. Amid the many logistical and emotional stressors that happen during Re-Entry, there are often many practical challenges as well. It may be difficult to buy groceries or hygiene items, or it may simply be difficult to feel "at home" in a new space.
Dreamed into being by NBWC's Inside Council, Cowboy's Closet is a response to these needs during Re-Entry. The closet, which is located near the back of Highlands' sanctuary, contains hygiene items, snacks, and some household items specifically gathered to support women leaving prison.
This closet is maintained and supported by our Outside Community. Our highest need is for gift cards (of any amount) that we can distribute, so that our community members can go out and select exactly what they need for their situation. Our preferred vendors include:
Additionally, we accept donations of RTD bus tickets.
Currently, our highest needs for in-kind donations include:
All hygiene items must be new and unused. At this time, we do not accept clothing, coats, or shoes for donation.
Donations can be dropped off at 4500 Wadsworth Blvd, Wheat Ridge, 80033 on weekdays between 10am-2pm, or by appointment established with the church office (office@highlandslutheran.org).
If you know you will need a tax receipt for your donation, please reach out via email so it can be prepared for you in advance. Thank you!
